Free Voice and Video Calls on MyPerson: Call Before You Meet
A ten minute call will tell you more than two weeks of texting. How free voice and video calls work on MyPerson and what to listen for.
There's one habit that would have saved most of the people who've been scammed, stood up or simply disappointed on a first date: call before you meet.
Texting hides a lot. Anyone can type kind words. Anyone can borrow a photo, or hand the phone to a friend who is better at flirting. A call strips most of that away in about four minutes.
What a call tells you
- Whether the person exists and looks like the pictures.
- How they speak: patient, rude, nervous, funny.
- Whether there's any chemistry. You can't feel it in text.
- Whether they do what they say. "I'll call at 7" is a tiny test of character.
Scammers dislike video calls for obvious reasons, which is why a person who always has an excuse should worry you. Our list of fake profile warning signs covers this.
How it works on MyPerson
Once you've matched and chatted, you can start a voice or video call from the chat. Nobody has to swap phone numbers, and MyPerson doesn't charge you for the call, though your network's data charges still apply. Keeping the call inside the app also keeps your number private. Sharing numbers in chat is a Premium feature, partly for that reason.
Make the first call easy on yourself
Pick somewhere quiet with decent light. Agree a time, the same way you would for a meeting. Keep it short: ten to fifteen minutes is plenty the first time.
If you panic about conversation, steal these:
- What does a perfect weekend look like for you?
- What was the last thing that made you laugh properly?
- What made you try an app like this?
Then shut up and listen. People tell you who they are in the way they interrupt, complain, or ask about you.
Green flags and red flags
Green: on time, looks like his photos, polite, asks about you, accepts it when you end the call.
Red: face never appears, asks for money, wants you to undress, gets angry when you hang up.
If anything feels wrong, end it, block, report. The safety page explains how.
If a full call feels like too much
Try a Spark video date. It's a random 60 second video chat for verified members, so there's no pressure to keep a conversation alive. A lot of members say it's the quickest way to know whether there's a vibe at all.
Quick ones
Are the calls really free? Yes, no app fee. Normal data charges from your network apply.
What if they won't ever call? Treat that as your answer. Someone interested makes time.
