Suya Boy and the Senator's Daughter · Chapter 3 of 5

Interrogation

They did not arrest him for kidnapping. They arrested him for suya.

That was the first surprise. The second was the interrogation room, a pleasant air-conditioned office in the Bureau's Abuja headquarters, with a leather sofa, a fruit bowl and a large window overlooking the Aso Rock. A woman in her fifties sat behind a desk. She had short grey hair, half-moon spectacles, and a face like a kindly headmistress. A name plate read: DIRECTOR HAJIYA FATIMA YUSUF.

"Mr Obi," she said. "Please. Sit. Tea?"

"I'd rather know why I'm here."

"Of course." She poured two cups. "You're here because you are in remarkable danger. And so is Miss Danjuma."

"Where is she?"

"In the next room, eating a very large breakfast." The Director smiled. "I assure you, she's well. She has asked three times whether you're all right."

You are right at the good part.
